Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire!
William Butler Yeats, (1865-1939), Irish poet and dramatist, and Nobel laureate.
My association with Silver Oaks started in 2007, after twelve years of my journey as a teacher in various Schools in India, mostly in far flung parts of the country with the children of those who guard our nation. I don’t know as to when the teacher in me became more domineering than the student inside me, but I guess it has something to do with my aim in life & my role over the years. I am sure the student in me still exists as a rebel & takes on the teacher in me, and this is what keeps me grounded in my pursuit towards inspiring my team of teachers towards striving for excellence in a teacher-learner environment. Every teacher knows that she is learner to begin with. It is only that the equilibrium of the student–teacher in her is presently tilted towards being a teacher because of the years of experience and learning. For, to be a good teacher one has to be a good learner and it is the first step towards tilting the scale in favour of a “teacher state” from a “student state”. Having said this I must hasten to add that there is a measure of teacher in every child and this is what I profess my team at Junior Wing to understand very well before they embark every morning on their missions.
I derive immense satisfaction by working towards “igniting young minds”, especially when they spontaneously become inquisitive and crave to learn. The experience of watching these young minds getting moulded into thinking, analytical and learning entities is unparalleled and gives me a sense of fulfilment. They say that “when work becomes pleasure, you don’t have to work”. It is my endeavour to motivate my team to derive pure pleasure by grooming these young minds in their pursuit towards our collective goal at Silver Oaks.
The interaction with the young and confident children at School, besides the two I have at home, is the obsession I have today. My motherhood also helps me in obtaining instant feedback as a parent and assists me in making mid-course corrections in order to remain focussed. To work towards aligning my goals with the vision of Silver Oaks keeps me motivated and charged every day. During my vacations I pursue my liking for travel. Interacting with people, reading and enjoying consequences of the fact that “I am from Venus” keep me busy otherwise.
